TMG Source Elements

TMG does not provide a report for custom source elements, you will find a list of the default Source Elements & Source Groups in the v5.x user's guide, Appendix B, pages 375 & 376 or in Getting The Most Out Of The Master Genealogist GTMOOTMG Appendix E, pages 276 & 277. If you create custom source elements, over time you may have created several, and in developing a new source type discover you have already created the custom source element you need. I developed a Microsoft Word ® table to keep track of mine. The table prints landscape on two 8.5 X 11 sheets of paper, element groups are in a column down the left side of the page and across the page you will find the default source elements in cells highlighted in yellow. You will also see many blank cells highlighted in turquoise, these blank cells are available for you to enter or write your custom source elements. You may print the table and write in the blank cells, or edit the document and type your custom source elements in the blank cells.

TMG Source Element Groups

In the process of reworking my census source types I thought it would be nice to have the source elements appear in a sequence that would help in entering data. I found that due to a poor choice or two when creating custom elements it was necessary to take on an extensive rework of the custom source elements prior to reworking the source templates.

The tables in the documents above were created in alphabetic order, but source elements are not displayed on the Source Definition dialog screen in alpha order, they are displayed in a hidden numeric order, I developed this table which shows them in numeric order. Additionally there are five Name Groups that allow entry of TMG ID#s and follow special output rules, also some source elements DO NOT appear on the Source Definition dialog, but are used in the output templates, and these are identified on the table.

If you have gotten this far you probably have an understanding of Source Elements & Source Groups, however if you are sitting there scratching your head you might want to read
